English Breastplates and Martingales

Breastplates and martingales attach to the saddle or other tack components and can aid the rider in some situations. Breastplates connect to the saddle and girth, preventing the saddle from sliding backward, particularly when jumping or covering hilly terrain. Martingales come in two common styles: standing and running. Both types are commonly used to keep the horse's head within a particular range of motion, but they attach and operate differently. The standing martingale has a rigid attachment from girth to noseband, and the running martingale is attached from girth to the reins which run through rings for a sliding motion.
