Key Features
-
Wide FootbedWide Footbed
Stirrups with a wide footbed provide a larger surface area for the rider's foot, helping distribute pressure for improved stability, control, and comfort. This design is popular amongst riders of various disciplines.
-
Extra GripExtra Grip
Stirrups with extra grip or aggressive tread provide added traction to help keep the rider's foot securely in place. This feature is especially useful for riders traveling at speed or jumping, where a steady leg position is essential.
-
Quick Release SystemQuick Release System
Quick-release stirrups are designed to open under pressure, so a rider's foot can disengage during a fall. Some feature a hinged arm that releases from the top or side, while others use an open design where the foot can slip free more easily.
-
Offset/Angeled EyeletOffset/Angeled Eyelet
Stirrups with offset or angled eyelets help riders achieve proper position in the irons. The angled eyelet encourages the foot to turn inward (Ideally, a rider's foot sits at about a 45-degree angle; the outside branch slightly forward and the inside slightly back.) allowing the rider to apply leg aids more effectively.
Weight
Weight
-
Light Weight
Lightweight stirrups (under 1 lb) are favored by riders who prefer lighter tack for performance riding and competitions. A drawback of this weight is that a lost stirrup can be harder to retrieve due to its lighter build.
-
Medium Weight
Midweight stirrups (1-1.5 lbs) offer a balanced feel that many riders prefer for everyday riding and competing. They provide enough weight for easy stirrup retrieval while still keeping tack relatively light.
-
Heavy Weight
Heavyweight stirrups (over 1.5 lbs) are preferred by riders who want maximum stability and easy stirrup retrieval. The added weight helps the stirrups hang in place, making them favored by dressage riders.
Forward-facing stirrups for forward-thinking riders, the MDC Sport Classic™ Aluminum Tread Stirrup Irons deliver a classic look with all the benefits of the revolutionary MDC functional design. The patented adjustable top provides preset positions for a traditional angle as well as 45º or 90° angles to suit any rider!
An ultra low-profile tread built right into the stirrup base is practically invisible in the show ring, providing greater stability and support without sacrificing a traditional look. The 45° "easy retrieval" trailing edge of the stirrup makes picking up a dropped stirrup quicker and easier, and improves the overall safety of the stirrup in the event of a fall. The wide foot pad can be removed and replaced with a more narrow, traditionally sized MDC stirrup pad for rider preference.

Comments: These stirrups are the best. The wide tread help keep stabilize your seat and leg position (although I find it a little more difficult to keep my heels down, compare to traditional width tread). The twist angle allows you to find the position that you like best, for me it's 90 degrees.

Comments: I tried riding in these a few times and ended up returning them. The stirrups themselves are very heavy. For me there wasn't much of a different between the different angles of the twisted top - I didn't find it to help me with my leg position or anything. I did like the wide thread since it gave me more stability, but other than that I thought it was just like any other stirrups.
