Safety Measures
-
ASTM/SEI CertifiedASTM/SEI Certified
The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) writes widely known safety standards, then an independent testing laboratory called the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) ensures that manufacturers design helmets that are up to par. The ASTM/SEI testing standard requires impact and retention tests, as well as a visor test to make sure that the visor breaks away or flexes without injuring the face.
-
European CertifiedEuropean Certified
European standards are put together by a committee comprised of representatives from countries in the EU. In addition to impact, retention, and visor tests, these safety standards demand that helmets withstand penetration and crushing. The inclusion of the latter two tests is thought to produce safer helmets than those only certified to ASTM standards by SEI.
-
SNELL CertifiedSNELL Certified
The Snell Foundation uses what is considered the most demanding testing procedure for riding helmets. Their tests include all aspects of the other certifications but with more stringent standards. Snell drops the helmets from a greater height during the impact test onto a variety of differently-shaped anvils, has the highest crush resistance rating, and ensures the helmet offers sufficient head coverage without sacrificing the rider's field of vision.
-
MIPSMIPS
MIPS, or Multi-Directional Impact Protection System, is an additional layer embedded in some helmets to reduce strain on the brain upon a fall. When the helmet makes contact with a surface, the low-friction MIPS layer allows the head to move 10 to 15 mm in all directions to dissipate impact on the brain.
-
ERT FoamERT Foam
ERT, or Energy Reduction Technology, consists of soft polymer pads incorporated into the helmet design that mitigates rotational and linear impact. With the motto "Softer is Safer", ERT works immediately and is most effective with lower-impact falls.
The KEP Cromo Matt 2.0 Wide Polo Helmet w/Black Harness is the evolution of the Cromo helmet, designed and manufactured in Italy. Cromo 2.0 gives you access to additional customization options; including an innovative mechanical interlocking system that allows for the replacement of both the front and rear inserts, as well as the visor in a few simple steps. The Cromo 2.0 can use a regular visor, the wide visor, or attach a smooth seam to make your helmet a skullcap. The outer shell is lightweight and impact-resistant thanks to the polycarbonate in-molding design. The KEP air control system in Cromo 2.0 is enhanced with additional ventilation slits at the back. Take control over your airflow with the adjustable vent. Simply slide the KEP logo up to open the front vent, and slide it down to close the vents for colder riding days. The hand-stitched leather strap maintains a five-point attachment design for a more stable fit. The new padding, with improved comfort and breathability, is in soft fabric made from eco-green materials.Jockey visor provided; additional visor, liners, and insert options available for purchase.
Like the original Cromo helmet, the Cromo 2.0 has a removable and washable liners, available in a variety of size options per shell. Get the perfect fit with no more icky, smelly helmets!
With a continued focus on safety, Cromo 2.0 has an integrated microchip, positioned under the front insert that allows you to upload your health details using the KEP app. In case of an emergency, this information can be provided to first responders that may help speed the provision of needed first aid. The flexible visor aids in minimizing the chance of the rider's head or neck reaching the ground at odd angles that can increase the risk of injury. The Cromo 2.0 is the first equestrian helmet to, also, be certified on asphalt for skateboards, skates, non-motor bikes, e-bikes, and scooters.

Sizing
Sizing Guide:
KEP Italia produces helmets with an external shell available in two sizes, M or L. Eight different sizes can be inserted inside the M shell, from 51 to 58, while those from 59 to 62 can be inserted in the L shell. But it is not enough that the helmet is the right size, it must also adapt to the shape of the head.
It is possible to insert small shims inside the helmet designed to perfectly adapt the helmet to the rider's head (which can be oval, round, or egg-shaped) and which can be inserted in front, behind, or on the sides of the helmet, always internally. Precisely for this reason KEP Italia has created twelve pads for oval heads (typical in Europe) and twelve pads for narrower heads (typical of North America and Canada).
