Light Weight
Lightweight stirrups (under 1 lb) are favored by riders who prefer lighter tack for performance riding and competitions. A drawback of this weight is that a lost stirrup can be harder to retrieve due to its lighter build.
-
Medium Weight
Midweight stirrups (1-1.5 lbs) offer a balanced feel that many riders prefer for everyday riding and competing. They provide enough weight for easy stirrup retrieval while still keeping tack relatively light.
-
Heavy Weight
Heavyweight stirrups (over 1.5 lbs) are preferred by riders who want maximum stability and easy stirrup retrieval. The added weight helps the stirrups hang in place, making them favored by dressage riders.

Comments: These are the BEST stirrups I have ever used! I have used countless irons over the years with different features and materials, some costing $200+. None ever felt perfect though, and I had gone back to plain old fillis irons for the last couple years. Recently, I wanted black, fairly traditional looking irons for breed shows and tried these on a whim. The first ride I really wasn't sure. I wasn't used to such light stirrups and it did feel weird. But after another couple rides I was hooked. The lightweight combined with the amazing grip allows me to keep my stirrups exactly where I want them. They are so secure I can go a whole ride without having to adjust them at all. This has NEVER been the case with any other stirrups. I don't think I'll ever buy another style of stirrups again. If you want maximum security and comfort, these pair perfectly with the total saddle fit slim stability leathers, with the buckle configuration to allow the stirrups to sit perpendicular to the horse.

Comments: Bought these with the Ovation web stirrup leathers. They are nice and light but the hole to put these leathers was and is so far very tight. Sliding leathers up after riding is difficult. Also told by a trainer stirrups so light might bounce if you loose one while riding. I do love caring the much lighter saddle set up.
