A: Tights are the closest to leggings in design and often material. They have an elastic or cinch waistband, and they are a consistent thickness from the waist to the ankle. Tights are meant to be worn under chaps or tall boots, thanks to their thin and comfortable material. Tights are a popular choice for their comfort and reliability. Jodhpurs are riding pants that are designed to reach the rider's ankles and are worn over the short paddock boot, covering the top lace or zip area. These pants are worn without chaps or tall boots and are instead secured by an elastic strap that goes under the rider's boot. Because of the limited layering, jodhpurs are often made with a slightly thicker fabric. Breeches are riding pants that are designed to be worn under tall boots or chaps and end right before the rider's ankle. Breeches have more fabric options and can be thicker and stiffer, depending on the pant's design purpose. Picking which pants are right for you or your little equestrian comes down to personal preference, as well as any requirements your riding program has.
