Bad reactionThis salve gave my mare a very bad reaction. Her belly got swollen and hot and painful to the touch. I suspect that she is allergic to the neem oil. So beware!

Versatile ProductThis is very versatile. I actually use it more on my horses' faces during fly season, to keep them away from nose, mouth, and eyes since I live in a VS region. It's very moisturizing, too, serving double duty to prevent cracked lips. It smells nice and the horses like the little face massage they get when I apply it. I do also use it around their sheaths and along their ventral line before a trail ride. Of course, it's also great for its intended use of scabby spots that need protection from flies.

Best fly repellentLove this product! My horse is extra sensitive and hates Swat. He does not have the same sensitivities with Farrier’s Wife fly repellent. I love the smell and lotion feel, not sticky like other ointments.

I like that this can be used on open sores as well as under the belly and around the eyes. Goes on easily and the smell is not offensive.

Better than SWAT or fly spraysBetter than SWAT and not sticky, gel-like, easy to apply, and lasts several days. Perfect for ventral/belly line and sheath, anywhere. Smells very good, excellent protection against mites/flies/mosquitoes, for my skin-sensitive Arab, Central Coast, CA. So much better than Repel-X or Endure fly sprays. I use spot-on fly treatment to control flies. We have some neighbor cattle 200 feet away, so have some cow fly issues. Best product I've tried for flies.

Only thing that worked on possible VSVThis year we have VSV in SoCal. My horse had lesions on her legs and udders. I tried everything under the sun and this cleared it up pretty quickly.

Previous Feedback

Comments: BEWARE: not for the sensitive horse! The essential oils in this managed to chemically burn my horse's udder/inside of hind legs, in just a couple of applications. I don't know if it helped with the bugs because I wasn't able to use it enough to tell before she started having an adverse reaction to it.
One reaction doesn't mean all horses will, but DEFINITELY, try a small test patch first for a couple of days before you go nuts with it.

Comments: Absolutely wonderful product! Works so well and smells amazing. It is not greasy and doesn't leave a nasty residue over everything. Highly recommend!

Comments: I wanted a natural alternative to SWAT cream, and I was so happy I found this! Keeps the flies off of my herds' bellies without being sticky or leaving residue behind. Love that I don't have to worry about applying hazardous chemicals to my hands too! As a bonus, this salve smells amazing as well :)
