Tips & Hints for Mane Pulling:
- Start at the ears and work your way down.. you get more fatigued as you work your way down, its much better to start where the most hair is!
- If you have a sensitive horse, try pulling only a few hairs in small sections at a time and even break up the sessions between days.
- Give your horse a hay net to keep him busy and happy while you work!
- Try lifting and pulling the hair UP and away rather than down -- this way you are pulling the direction the hair grows rather than against it, which prevents unnecessary soreness.
- Less is more! Always trim or pull the mane a little longer than you intend for the finished product. You can always go back and trim a little more, but it takes a much longer time to grow back!
- Pull your horse's mane after you've ridden - his pores will be open, making it easier to pull the hairs without pain.
- Tend to your horse's mane regularly, eliminating the need for intense pulling sessions.
